How Long Does Concrete Lifting Foam Last?

When your home’s concrete starts to sink or shift, you may have heard of foam injection as a solution to lift and level it. At Foundation Solutions Group, we often get asked, “How long does concrete lifting foam last?” The answer may surprise you—the foam we use has an infinite lifespan under the right conditions.

However, as with any material, there are factors that can affect its durability. In this blog, we’ll explain what makes concrete lifting foam so long-lasting and how you can ensure your repair stands the test of time.

What is Concrete Lifting Foam?

Concrete lifting foam is a specialized, closed-cell polyurethane foam that is injected underneath sunken or uneven concrete to lift it back to its original level. The foam expands and hardens, providing a strong foundation for your concrete slab. It’s an efficient and durable solution that can be applied to sidewalks, driveways, patios, and even larger surfaces like garage floors.

Why Concrete Lifting Foam is a Great Solution

Unlike traditional mudjacking or other repair methods, foam injection is lightweight, strong, and long-lasting. It’s designed to withstand the pressures of daily use and, when installed correctly, can keep your concrete stable for the long haul. At Foundation Solutions Group, we take care to ensure that your repair is protected from water and UV exposure so that you can enjoy a long-lasting solution.

How Long Does the Foam Last?

The concrete lifting foam we use is designed to last a lifetime. The material itself is incredibly durable and, under normal conditions, will not break down over time. However, there are a few factors to be aware of to ensure the foam remains as strong as the day it was installed:

UV Protection

The foam is not UV-protected, which means that if it is exposed to direct sunlight, it can break down over time. However, since the foam is generally injected beneath concrete slabs, UV exposure is rarely a concern. In the example shown in our video, if the foam had simply been installed without adding an additional slab of concrete beside the existing structure, the side of the foam would have been exposed to sunlight which would have created a long-term problem.

Water Exposure

Water can be the biggest enemy of your foundation. While the foam is strong, if the soil beneath the repair continues to compress or wash away due to water, it may cause the concrete to settle again. That’s why it’s crucial to keep water routed away from your foundation. Prolonged water exposure, especially in freeze-thaw cycles, can compress the foam over time. In our experience, proper drainage is key to making sure your repair lasts.
